I moved two websites I’d built from WordPress to Cloudflare Pages’ free hosting and it was surprisingly easy to set up for someone new to Pages.
I’ve been wanting to convert these WordPress sites to static hosting for a while now, in order to reduce ongoing maintenance. Since both of these sites are purely informational websites, with no contact forms, comment section, or payment processing – they fit static hosting well.
This YouTube video was really helpful, I followed the steps and converted each WordPress site to static within 15 minutes or so, including connecting a custom domain.
As an extra step, I created a backup of my sites using All-in-One WP Migration plugin prior to converting my site to static with Simply Static plugin. I also set up staging subdomains for each project and loaded the backups there in case I want to make edits to the websites later.
As someone who isn’t a programmer or developer, I’m not sure if this is the best way to go about it yet or if there’s a better workflow, but I’m happy to have offloaded two sites from WordPress for now.
Next, I need to figure out how to use GitHub, because I discovered I can’t edit the site content directly in Cloudflare Pages.
